Definition
Myelodysplastic syndromes are a group of disorders caused by poorly formed or dysfunctional blood cells due to ineffective hematopoiesis in the bone marrow. Patients with MDS often present with anemia, increased risk of infections, and bleeding problems due to the production of abnormal or insufficient blood cells.
